The big problem with emotions is that we don’t know what they are and we’re not taught how to utilise them. 

So much so that most people regard emotions as scary and problematic. 

“You’re too emotional” is a far too common statement, you may have heard it yourself,  coming from a person who quite frankly hasn’t got a clue about emotions and the importance of them.

Most people don’t understand emotions at all and are perplexed as to how to react and what to do with them, so emotions usually go ignored. Like the very unpopular smelly  kid at school that no one speaks to or invites to anything.

Emotions are treated like they don’t exist and if they’re ignored they’ll just go away. But that’s just it, they don’t go away, they don’t just disappear… they get stuffed so far down in the depths of your very inner self one after the other until there’s no more room to stuff them into and they burst out like an overstuffed cushion as mental, emotional or physical illness.

Not many people know this but emotions don’t cause problems they show up as signals to help solve your problems.

But how can emotions solve our problems?

The very thing that so many people blame for their problems – their emotions, is the very solution to their problems.

You see emotions are actually very effective messengers that bring really helpful messages as gifts.

If FedEx or DHL were delivering gifts to you on a daily basis would you ignore them and leave them on the doorstep?

Most people don’t understand. They choose to think that emotions are problematic and not gifts.

It’s time to listen to your emotions, to make space to open the door to those gifts and stop ignoring them and leaving them on the doorstep.

Here are 3 Tips you can use to make space to listen to your emotions  –

  • Walking in nature on your own.
  • Sit in silence
  • Rest or recharge on your own

It’s time to be bold and get curious with your emotions. 

Next time you start to feel overwhelmed or annoyed Stop, Breathe and Question what your emotions are trying to tell you. Ask what the message is for you so that you can process it and manage it effectively.
